Tymen Jan
Bronda (1977) began studying organ at age seven. After studying with
with Piet Wiersema for several years, he began further studies at the
Groningen conservatory with Johan Beeftink and Theo Jellema. Following
his diploma there, he studied at the conservatory in Zwolle, and took
his diploma there in Church Music. In 2008, he finished his organ
studies with Reitze Smits at the College of Arts in Utrecht and, after
recitals in St. George’s Church in Amersfoort and the Basilica of Our
Lady in Zwolle, he received the degree of Master of Music. Recently, he
has studied choir-directing with Klaas Stok.
Tymen
Jan Bronda is Cantor-Organist of the Lutheran Chuch in Groningen. In
recent years, he has taken the initiative of organising a series of
innovative organ concerts in the church, under the title, Orgel Anders
(“Organs Differently”). In addition to this, he has played a central
role in the cantatas performed there during the services on the second
Sunday of every month. As a private teacher, he gives lessons in the
church in organ and church music.
In 2006, he founded the Lutheran Bach Ensemble, a group aimed at historically-informed performance of Baroque music. With this ensemble, he has performed a number of Bach’s cantatas and several of the masses as part of the worship service.
As a conductor, he directs the chamber choir Tiraña in Groningen and the “project choir” Venite Cantemus in Bedum. Last year he performed Bach’s Magnificat with Tiraña and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonnelle and Haydn’s Nelson Mass with Venite Cantemus.
